Into the Mainstream addresses barriers to healthcare for refugees and asylum seekers. In particular we support registration with GP practices and other health services in Nottingham city. We also offer training on barriers to accessing healthcare for healthcare professionals and other agencies working with refugees and asylum seekers.

                 
Description of service and support

An initial appointment with project staff is arranged. Where there is no registration with a GP Into the Mainstream facilitate this including, if necessary, visiting a GP practice with the client. We also refer clients directly to some other services such as Health Visitors and Community Midwives.  Into the Mainstream also carry out training on barriers to accessing healthcare for GP practices, other healthcare professionals and awareness training for other agencies working with refugees and asylum seekers and promote health issues to refugee and asylum seeking communities. They also signpost, where appropriate, to other specialised services at Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum.  The service is free and there are 2 members of staff.
