Explore Family supports families and individuals in Nottingham City who have been affected by someone else’s drug and/or alcohol misuse. The service works with partners, carers, children and young people, both one-to-one and in group and family settings.
Description of service and support
The service aims to reduce the negative impact of drug/alcohol misuse on families and build family functioning. It also aims to build resilience and improve outcomes for families.
We adopt a 5 step framework encouraging the family member to open up about the problems they are facing, to increase their knowledge and understanding in this area, to identify ways they have responded to the problem in the past and evaluate alternative responses, to identify their social support network and signpost on to other support services. For children we use a lot of play therapy and child-led activities, both in the home and at school.
From referral the family member will be invited to attend an assessment which will enable them to discuss the concerns they have in depth and liaise with their key worker to establish a recovery plan.
The service is flexible and clients can be met and supported at the offices or out in the community at a venue convenient for the client. There are 7 members of staff.
