Compass Young People’s Alcohol and Drug Service – Nottingham

Compass Young People’s Service Nottingham provides substance misuse support and treatment to young people under the age of 18. Service provision includes the delivery of a range of targeted and specialist interventions for young people involved in problematic alcohol or drug use. You can come and see us at our main base in the city centre or we can bring our service to you.

Description of service and support

Team of 12 including: Looked After Children Link Worker; Youth Offending Team Link Workers; Education and Post 16 Link Workers; Homeless and Hostels Link Worker; Diversity Link Worker; Health Link Worker; Family Worker.

  • Our aim is always to build the young person’s motivation and capacity to break problematic substance misuse and sustain their recovery so that they can achieve their potential academically, economically and socially. In every case, we work with young people as individuals, tackling their substance misuse as one of a number of vulnerabilities with which they present.

  • Provide a range of targeted/early interventions to vulnerable groups of young people deemed more at risk of substance misuse

  • Offer support and advice to families

  • Provide professional consultation offering guidance and support with initial identification of substance misuse related issues, how to respond appropriately and how to engage young people

Working in partnership with universal, targeted and specialist services and professionals in Nottingham to ensure there are robust referral pathways both into and out of the service and provide a holistic multi-disciplinary response to a young person’s needs.

We have a city centre base within NGY myplace which can be accessed by excellent public transport links. Alternatively, we also operate as an outreach service and will see young people in a range of locations that offer safe, comfortable and confidential spaces.

Young people under the age of 18 who are involved in problematic alcohol or drug use. Young people must be living in Nottingham City (or accessing education within Nottingham City) and be aware of the referral.
Compass Young People’s Service are happy to provide telephone advice and consultation. Referrals to Compass can be made over the telephone, e-mailed, faxed or posted. Anyone can make a referral and young people or concerned family or friends can also ring us on our freephone number. To make a referral to Compass Young People’s Service young people need to be: • Under 18 years of age • Using alcohol or drugs problematically • Living in Nottingham City (or accessing education within Nottingham City) • Aware of the referral.
