Description of service and support

AWAAZ provides a direct service to the BMEcommunities in Nottingham for: individuals going through psychological/emotional distress; individuals already in contact with the psychiatric services; the family/carers of those who are experiencing any form of mental health difficulties/concerns; individuals in the community who are isolated, individuals who need tenancy support and individuals with personal budgets.  AWAAZ has a resource library and provides advice, support and information. It provides a confidential service in English, Punjabi, Mirpuri, Urdu and Hindi.

AWAAZ is also funded for a 12 month project with Time to Change named 'Shared Voices' to reduce stigma and discrimination around mental health. The project works towards the following three outcomes:

1. Improve public attitudes and behaviours towards mental health issues which leads to more people (children, young people and adults) facing less discrimination in relation to their mental health.
2. Improve the confidence and ability of people (children, young people and adults) with mental health problems to take action to tackle stigma and discrimination.
