Michael Varnam House provides supported accommodation for single homeless people with a primary alcohol problem, although those with associated drug misuse issues will not be excluded. Detoxification is available on the premises as are abstinent and controlled drinking programmes.
Description of service and support
Michael Varnham House core is a 12 bed hostel with ensuite, 3 single occupancy move on flats and 25 units in shared houses within the city. Room 1 is an NHS crisis detox bed run by Last Orders based at NEMS on Upper Parliament Street and is available to people who require urgent in house detox. The service also manages community detoxes for city based GPs who refer to the service. Clients pick up medication daily for this service.
The service has 24 hour staffing. Pets are not allowed.
