Imaani Project - Tuntum Housing

The Imaani Project provides temporary accommodation with support to young women aged 16 and above, primarily but not exclusively from Caribbean, Asian or Dual Heritage descent. Imaani offers support, advice and guidance to young women who are vulnerable, homeless or threatened with homelessness. This may be due to a variety of reasons, such as relationship breakdown with family, domestic violence or abuse.

Description of service and support

The Imaani Project offers a safe and practical environment for women to find their feet. The project consists of 10 high quality self contained rooms with en-suite facilities and kitchenette within the main building. All rooms are fully furnished including the provision of bed linen and a ‘Welcome Pack’ (containing basic items). There is also a communal kitchen and lounge facilities.  Imaani also has two shared ‘move-on house. These houses are situated close to the main building. There are 4 staff available. Pets are not accepted.

The support service offered is based on individually assessed needs. Residents are encouraged to take control of their lives, increase their confidence and self esteem and make informed choices about their future.

All residents who are not already engaged in some form of training, education and/or employment are actively encouraged to do so. Staff supports the clients emotionally according to their individual needs. Each resident is allocated a key worker who they will meet on a regular basis to make sure each resident receives the support they need.

Staff are present on site Monday to Thursday from 9am to 8pm, Fridays from 9am to 6pm and limited cover over the weekends between 10am and 2pm. Outside of these hours, an emergency on-call service is provided.

After staying at the Imaani Project the aim is that residents will be able to make informed choices, be equipped with the necessary life skills which will enable them to live a more independent and settled way of life with minimum support.
